Dedicated LPG / Propane Generators
Quick answer: Size your generator to your peak load, not your average. As a rough guide: a coffee or snack pitch runs on 3kW, a single-fryer or griddle setup on 5kW, and a multi-appliance van on 7kW or more. Add roughly 20% headroom over your calculated load so the unit isn’t running flat-out. Full workings in our LPG generator sizing guide and calculator.
LPG/propane generators run quieter and cleaner than petrol and cost up to around 40% less to run. For UK mobile catering, MobCater stocks Greengear (3–7kW, Euro 5), GearGB, Champion and Gorilla Power dual-fuel — all rated for propane and off-grid trading.

LPG Generator FAQs
What size LPG generator do I need for mobile catering?
Size to your peak load plus about 20% headroom. Rough guide: 3kW for coffee or snacks, 5kW for a single fryer or griddle, 7kW or more for a multi-appliance van. Use the sizing calculator to add up your appliances.
Are LPG generators cheaper to run than petrol?
Yes — LPG/propane typically costs up to around 40% less per hour than petrol, runs cleaner, and reduces engine wear and maintenance.
Do these generators run on propane or butane?
Propane. Butane won’t vaporise reliably in UK outdoor temperatures, so it’s unsuitable for trading. The generators here are set up for propane.
Are dual-fuel generators worth it?
Yes for flexibility — start on petrol if needed, run on LPG for cost and cleanliness. GearGB, Champion and Gorilla Power dual-fuel models give that option.
How quiet are LPG generators?
Inverter models (such as the Champion range at 53–66 dBA) are quiet enough for events and markets with noise limits. LPG also runs quieter than petrol at the same output.
Can I run a coffee machine off an LPG generator?
Yes, if the generator is sized for the machine’s peak draw — a dual-fuel coffee machine on electric can pull 3kW or more. For most coffee setups a 3–5kW generator is enough; check your machine’s rated wattage.
What about warranty and servicing?
Generators come with a free registration and service kit as shown on the listings. Warranty is back-to-base via the supplier.
