What the Super Jolly does well
Big flat burrs. Larger flat burrs, around 64mm to 65mm, grind faster and cooler. That helps keep the grind consistent when the queue builds.
A calm motor speed. The product description says it runs at a lower RPM than most grinders. That means less heat passed to the beans.
Precise grind control. The stepless wheel lets you make tiny changes. That is what you want when you dial in a new blend.
Quick service. One pull of the lever gives one dose. You can set it between 5.5g and 9.0g to match your recipe.
Where it falls short
Ground coffee waits. The dosing chamber holds 280g at a time. On a slow day, the coffee at the bottom is not fresh.
No published shot time. Fracino’s on-demand Kenia-tron grinds a 7g shot in 2.8 seconds, with a 1kg hopper and 60mm flat burrs. We cannot make a fair speed comparison with the Super Jolly.
Parts-only warranty. The listing says parts only, so plan for labour yourself.
It is tall. At 610mm, it will not fit under many wall shelves.
Timer doser or on-demand: which suits you?
A doser grinds into a chamber, and you pull a lever for each dose. An on-demand grinder grinds fresh when you present the portafilter.
Doser models are quick and simple. On-demand models keep the coffee fresher. Our single-dose vs hopper grinder guide explains the choice in more detail.
Who should buy it
- A good fit: a café with steady trade and one main espresso blend.
- A good fit: a counter where staff want a simple lever and a set dose.
- Think twice: a shop that rotates single-origin beans every few days.
- Think twice: a quiet site where the chamber would rarely empty.
The biggest mistake with a doser
The biggest mistake is filling the dosing chamber and leaving it all day. The chamber holds about 31 pulls at the top 9g dose. If the coffee sits, your shots go flat and you blame the beans.
Keep the chamber low. Top it up before the rush, not before opening.
After a quiet spell, throw away the first dose. Then dial in again, using our guide to dialling in a coffee grinder.
What you need before you buy
- Bench space for W240 x D420mm, with 610mm of height clear above it.
- A 240V supply. The motor is rated at 350W.
- Scales to weigh doses, plus a tamper and a knock box.
- A cleaning routine. Our guide to cleaning a coffee grinder covers it.
- A plan for wear. See when to replace coffee grinder burrs.

Mazzer Super Jolly FAQs
What is the Mazzer Super Jolly SJM?
The Mazzer Super Jolly SJM is a commercial timer doser coffee grinder with 64mm flat burrs. You pull the dosing lever and get one dose of ground coffee, adjustable from 5.5g to 9.0g. It holds 1.2kg of beans and 280g of ground coffee, and it suits coffee shops with steady trade.
How much does the Mazzer Super Jolly cost in the UK?
The Mazzer Super Jolly SJM 1.2kg is from £659 on the MobCater product page, and it was in stock when we checked. Prices and stock can change, so check the product page before you order. That is the grinder price only, so budget separately for a tamper, scales and a knock box.
How much coffee does the hopper and doser hold?
The bean hopper holds up to 1.2kg of beans. The dosing chamber holds 280g of ground coffee at any one time. At the top 9g dose that is about 31 pulls of the lever, so on a quiet day much of it can sit unused for a while.
What burrs does the Super Jolly have, and how is the grind adjusted?
It has 64mm flat burrs. You set the grind with a stepless, micrometrical adjustment, which you change with a twist of the wheel handle. Stepless means there are no fixed clicks, so you can make very small changes when you dial in a new blend.
What dose does the Super Jolly give?
Each pull of the dosing lever gives one shot of ground coffee, and you can set the dose between 5.5g and 9.0g. A double basket usually needs more than that, so expect to pull the lever twice for a double. Weigh a few doses against your own basket before service.
Is the Mazzer Super Jolly good for a coffee shop?
Yes, if your trade is steady and you serve one main blend. The flat burrs, 1.2kg hopper and lever dosing suit that kind of service. It is a poorer fit if you swap beans often or have long quiet spells, because ground coffee waits in the dosing chamber.
How much space does the Super Jolly need?
The Super Jolly measures W240 x D420 x H610mm and weighs 14kg. Allow the full 610mm height plus room to refill the hopper, so check any shelf above your bench. It runs on 240V and is rated at 350W.
Does the Mazzer Super Jolly come with a warranty?
The product page lists the warranty as parts only. Read that carefully before you buy, because it does not mention labour. Ask us before you order if you want the exact terms confirmed for your set-up.
